In 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice issued an ADA Title II rule requiring every state and local government website to meet WCAG 2.1 AA. Two hard deadlines apply:

Populations ≥ 50,000

Larger municipalities, transit agencies, and state agencies.

April 26, 2028

Populations < 50,000

Smaller cities, towns, school districts, special districts.
